Shipping Information

Which shipping services does FES use?

FES offers domestic and global shipping through UPS (United Parcel Service), FedEx, and the US Postal Service (USPS). UPS and FedEx shipments require a street or rural route address for delivery. Only US Postal Service is able to deliver to PO boxes.

All carriers offer different tiers of service.

Whether it's economy (cheaper and slower) or expedited (more expensive but faster), you can choose whichever service you prefer at checkout.  The shipping rates you see at the checkout page come directly from the shipping carriers.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes.  All orders of $150 or more are eligible for free UPS Ground shipping to Continental US addresses at checkout.  Free shipping is not available to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam or other outlying areas. UPS Ground shipping requires a physical street address and cannot be delivered to PO boxes.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping transit times vary by shipping carrier, method, and delivery address.  All orders ship from our office in Nevada City, CA (Northern California). See below for a list of common domestic shipping transit times. See the International Shipping section below for international shipping transit times. Transit times are estimates only and are not guaranteed for Postal or Ground services. Transit times begin from the date of shipment, not necessarily the day the order is placed. Transit times may also be affected by unforeseen delays from weather or other shipping service disruptions. Please contact your shipping carrier if your order has shipped but delivery is delayed.

For deliveries outside of the United States:

If you are purchasing products for delivery outside of the United States, we strongly encourage you to first view our International Distributors list to see if there is a distributor available in your country.

If there are no distributors in your country, or they do not carry the products you are interested in, you may order directly from us. Please keep in mind that while we do ship to most countries around the world, some countries may be unavailable to ship to per shipping carrier restrictions.

Shipments to addresses outside of the United States are charged actual shipping transit costs and insurance fees (if available), which are determined by the weight, value and destination. Shipping transit times vary by shipping carrier, method, and delivery address. See below for shipping transit time estimates and important information about shipping fees. Payments for international orders should be made by credit card.

Customs brokerage:

Some countries may require additional customs brokerage in order to process your shipment through customs.  In these instances shipping carriers may require that a customs broker be designated. Most, if not all shipping carriers offer their own customs brokerage services or will allow the recipient to designate their own if they have one.  Once a shipment arrives to its destination country's customs facility, the shipping carrier will contact the recipient by email and/or phone to confirm which customs brokerage service is preferred (the shipping company's or the recipients' choice). If the shipping carrier's customs brokerage services are chosen, the recipient will then have to pay the associated fee.  This fee is in addition to the shipping charges paid when the order was placed and are outside of FES control. These fees, when applicable, must be paid to complete delivery. Keep this in mind if sending a drop-shipment (gift order) to someone in a non-US country.

*For Romania: As of May 19, 2025, UPS Romania charges a commission if it pays customs duties in advance, on behalf of the recipient customer, in the amount of 3%+ VAT of the amount paid in advance or at least 5.60 Euros + VAT per shipment, whichever is greater, with the following stipulations:

  • - For individual recipients, UPS automatically pays customs duties in advance.

  • - The recipients who are legal entities, who have concluded a contractual agreement with UPS Romania, with reference to this additional service, will be invoiced according to the conditions stipulated in that agreement.

Additional shipping fees:

In addition to the aforementioned customs brokerage fee, additional customs duties and taxes may be due when the package arrives at the destination country's customs office. In most cases, the shipping carrier will contact the recipient by email or phone to collect any additional information or fees owed before the the package can be cleared through customs and released for delivery.

How much are the customs fees?

Unfortunately, FES has no way of knowing in advance. Customs duties and taxes are determined by the recipient country's customs agency and import laws, along with any tax laws for your state/province/region. Some countries provide tools to help estimate what these costs might be to prepare you in advance. You can try performing an internet search for customs fees for imports to your country.

What if I refuse to pay the customs fees?

Customs arrangements and fees are the responsibility of the customer/recipient.

If a delivery or associated charges are refused by the customer/recipient and the package is returned to us, a credit or refund will be issued for the returned and undamaged product only after 10 business days of receipt of the returned package.. However, the customer is responsible for shipping both ways and will be charged accordingly.

If a package must be abandoned due to exorbitant fees and not returned to us, the customer is liable for the cost of the products.

FES has a distributor in Canada

We strongly recommend that Canadian customers first try contacting our Canadian distributor, Self Heal Distributing, for your product purchasing needs. You can find their contact information on the International Distributors page. Ordering through Self Heal Distributing may save you significantly in shipping costs and time.

If they do not have what you are looking for, you may order directly through us but please first read the information below as well as in the previous International Shipping section for important information on what to expect.

Please note, all prices on this site are listed in $ US Dollars.

Below is a summary of services and fees specific to shipments to Canada. All fees are in addition to and billed after you pay for shipping at checkout. Please read the International Shipping section above for additional details.

The Postal Service (USPS) - 3 to 10 business days

Often times the most economic shipping method, delivery can take a bit longer than the other services but the postal service tends to be more forgiving when it comes to customs fees. As such, it is often a preferred shipping method by most Canadian customers. Once the customs fees have been collected, the package is transferred to the Canadian Postal Service to complete the delivery.

***Effective October 11, 2025, Canada Post and the CUPW moved from a full, national strike to rotating strikes. Postal services will start resuming next week, but delays should still be expected due to uncertainty and instability.

Canada Post will first process mail and parcels already in the network. New commercial volumes won’t be accepted until Wednesday, October 15, and on-time delivery guarantees and date-specific Neighbourhood Mail remain suspended.

USPS will continue to pick up, accept, and transport mail and packages to Canada, while monitoring the situation closely. Effective October 3, 2025, the USPS will continue to accept but will temporarily suspend the guarantee on PMEI destined for Canada. Read more.
Read the latest updates from Canada Post. ***

UPS Standard (Ground) - 3 to 5 business days

Once your package arrives at Canadian customs, UPS will contact the recipient by email or phone to collect a flat $10 CAD customs brokerage fee for residential packages valued at $200 CAD or less, plus any local taxes, duties and other customs fees, on behalf of Canadian Border Services, before the package can be delivered. If the package is valued above $200 CAD, the customs brokerage fee may be higher than $10 CAD.

***Effective September 28, 2025, and until further notice, UPS will implement a $0.75 CAD Surge Fee on all Air and Ground shipments within Canada.***

UPS Worldwide Expedited (Air) - 2 to 5 business days

The UPS Worldwide Expedited shipping fee, that you pay for at checkout, already includes the customs brokerage fee built into the price. UPS will still reach out to the recipient when the package reaches the border to collect any local taxes, duties and other customs fees that may be due before the package can be delivered.

***Effective September 28, 2025, and until further notice, UPS will implement a $0.75 CAD Surge Fee on all Air and Ground shipments within Canada.***

FedEx International Economy - 2 to 5 business days

Like UPS Standard to Canada, FedEx also charges customs brokerage fees after you checkout, to complete your delivery. Once your shipment arrives at the border, FedEx will contact the recipient by email or phone to have the recipient designate their preferred customs broker.  If you do not have a preferred customs broker, FedEx will offer their customs brokerage service for $11 CAD. FedEx will also collect local taxes, duties, and other customs fees on behalf of Canadian Border Services, before the package can be delivered.

How long will customs hold my package?

Canadian customs will only hold a package for a maximum of 5 days business days, before they return it back to FES. As such, it is imperative that you check your email (possibly spam folders) for messages or phone for calls from the shipping courier or customs agent, after your order ships.

Customs arrangements and fees are the responsibility of the customer/recipient.

If a delivery or associated charges are refused by the customer/recipient and the package is returned to us, a credit or refund will be issued for the returned and undamaged product only after 10 business days of receipt of the returned package. However, the customer is responsible for shipping both ways and will be charged accordingly.

If a package must be abandoned due to exorbitant fees and not returned to us, the customer is liable for the cost of the products.  See our Returns Policy page for more information.
